Beauty tip - Eyebrows - do not skimp on expert quality

Eyebrows - do not skimp on quality service Here is a story that happened a little while back, but it's a good lesson to learn so I will share it with you. A customer walked in distress saying she went elsewhere to have her eyebrows waxed because it was cheaper and they have "ruined" her eyebrows by waxing on the top as well and took her previously "perfect arch" off. She was devastated, she had a wedding to go to on the weekend and asked if we could help her out. We managed to temporarily fix the problem with some shaping and tinting but we advised that the brows will need some time to grow back so that we can shape them to how she liked them. A very important lesson here, is never, ever, skimp on quality service when it comes to the eyebrows, sadly, as we all know, they never grow back the same. And great eyebrows make a difference to enhance your features. If it's a cheap job, it's cheap for a reason. They are either inexperienced or using inferior...

Salicylic Acid - Benefits and Uses

Image
If you have an oilier skin type with bumps, blackheads, and congestion, your skin will love a treatment with salicylic acid.  Salicylic acid makes one of the best acne treatments, and is also excellent on oily skins with blackheads, clogging and congestion, thickened,  sun damaged  skins with brown spots and pigmentation.  Salicylic acid is a hydroxy acid derived from willow bark. Closely related to aspirin, it has an anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial effect on the skin, purifying and soothing acne-prone skin.  Being an oil soluble hydroxy acid,   salicylic acid  is extremely efficient at penetrating into the clogged and congested pores, breaking up the hard waxy deposits, softening the blockage, deep cleansing pores of impurities.    It has the ability to exfoliate clogged pores from the inside out, something that AHAs cannot do.  It is excellent for drawing out infection, ingrown hair, blackheads and congestion. Hate your blackheads?

Image
I had big, juicy blackheads when I was younger. In my earlier years, I tried it all that I read as remedies in magazines. Lemon juice, blackhead strips, ten-o-six (similar to proactive in my days, just much cheaper), squeezing, clay masks, you name it. Finally what cleared it ... Was my beauty therapist. She advised me that to manage open pores and blackheads was not to try and wash off (strip) all the grease off, rather, trick the skin into thinking it was already moist, so it did not have to pump so much oil. Fight fire with fire she said. I had regular weekly facials as recommended, and she put me on a skin care routine tailored to balance excessive oil production without stripping my skin. A lovely cleanser and moisturizer that helped clear my skin. She gave me a cream to rub in the blackheads to 'soften and dissolve' them every day. I used an exfoliant to clear the pores of excessive debris and a mask to draw out the blackheads 2-3 times a week. She was a brilliant ...

CURES FOR BLACKHEADS

Image
❌ Avoid harsh cleansers that strip the skin. If the skin is stripped, it feels dry, so it will slow down desquamation (the rate the dead cells are 'flicked' off the skin), and will increase oil production to moisturize itself. This can lead to bigger and juicier blackheads. So use a gentle cleanser (I am a big fan of milky cleansers) that will re-balance the oils without stripping and help remove pore clogging dead cells. ✔ Cleanse skin morning &night, don't skimp on this, pores need to be freed of build up and debris that could potentially clogged more pores. ✔ Exfoliate 2-3 times a week, very important to remove dead cells that build up. Exfoliating will gradually work the blackhead out and refine large pores. ✔ Use a serum or cream to dissolve / draw out blackheads. Blackheads are quite deep, and need to be softened and drawn out. A good serum or treatment cream with salicylic acid is able to get in the clogged pore and 'clean' it out from the inside o...

Tips for Fading Melasma (Chloasma) or Hyper Pigmentation

Image
Melasma is a term for hyperpigmentation patches that appear on the skin as stains and brown patches.   Sun exposure and hormones trigger melasma.  Pregnancy, the contraceptive pill, and some medicines eg antibiotics, or antidepressants, can increase the skin's sensitivity to UV and contribute to the overproduction of melanin causing the stained marks on the skin. Management: wear sunscreen EVERY day, look for a broad-spectrum sunscreen that blocks out UVA and UVB. If you are serious about fading pigmentation, you MUST wear a good sunscreen EVERY day. Look for a professional formula that also includes antioxidants which help neutralize free radicals that contribute to sun damage in the skin. If you don't like wearing sunscreen or forget to put it on every day, don't even bother wasting your money on professional treatments, you're wasting your time. Sunscreen is an absolute minimum MUST DO if you want to see results.  For your moisturizers, look for treatment cream...
