Tips For Healthy Cuticles and Nails
Weak nails and dry cracking skin surrounding the nail may be a sign of nutritional deficiency.

For healthy hair, skin and nails, include foods that are rich in omegas in your diet. Foods that are rich in omegas are Flaxseed oil, Canola Oil, Olive Oil, Salmon, Mackerel, Mussels, Oysters, Tuna, Chia seeds, Soybeans, Tofu, Mug Beans, Flax seeds, Pumpkin seeds, Walnuts, Seaweed and Algae, Spinach, Cauliflower, Broccoli, Bok Choy, Brussels Sprouts, Pumpkin and Capsicum.
Omega-3 is the most helpful for skin and nails as it has anti-inflammatory properties, promotes healthy cell membrane, supports cell health, it’s healing and promotes barrier repair. Alpha Linolenic Acid (ALA) is the primary fatty acid in omega-3. You may have seen this ingredient in skin care, and look out for it to repair dry damaged skin, hair and nails.
However omega 3 is highly unstable and oxidizes very quickly so it is important to use all 3 omegas together as the omega 6 and 9 are also very good for the skin, hair and nails and help to stabilise and protect the omega 3 from oxidation. Linseed Oil, also known as Flaxseed Oil, has omegas 3,6,9 and the highest amount of omega 3 of all plant oils.

1.Wear rubber gloves to protect your nails and cuticles when washing up.
2.You have to stop biting. There is no way around it. Carry with you at all times a small nail kit, and if you have a snag in the nail, file it down. If the skin around the cuticle is lifting, clip it back to avoid it getting worse.
3.Massage a conditioning cream or oil into your cuticles morning and night to soften dry hard skin and stimulate blood flow to the nail root.
4.Apply a clear nail strengthener to nails every day, I do this as I sit down to watch TV. The daily coat helps to protect the nails from splitting. Every 3rd or 4th day I remove it with a conditioning nail polish remover and start again so that the build up does not get too thick.
5.Massage a conditioning hand cream into your hands and nails every day. I keep mine in my handbag and reapply after every wash. I look for hand creams that are a pleasure to use, something that I really enjoy to encourage me to use it more often. So I am always on the look out for a nice smelling hand cream.
6.Have regular manicures. This is an inexpensive way to treat yourself to a little bit of luxury. The regular manicures will keep you focused on looking after your nails and boost the results by encouraging beautiful soft and smooth skin on the hands and healthy growing nails. Try paraffin manicures for extra conditioning treatment.
7.When outdoors during winter, wear gloves to keep hand and nails protected from the harsh dry weather. I always apply a conditioning hand cream before I put my gloves on, the warmth will enhance penetration.
8.Finally, never use your nails as tools, it’s a sure way to break and crack your nails.
